Benefits for High-School and College Students

Networking: Members of the Midwest Section comprise a diverse cross-section of environmental professionals, including environmental consultants (property due diligence, contamination remediation, environmental expert witnesses, building design), regulators (EPA, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Kansas Department of Health and Environment), and environmental attorneys. Membership provides an opportunity to spend time with these people in a relaxed setting, without having to ask anyone to take time out of their day. You can think of membership as a less intrusive alternative to an “informational interview”!

Annual Technical Conference: This exciting two-day event consistently draws some of the most influential environmental practitioners (both private and public) from Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska. Presentations cover a variety of topics, and are presented in an accessible manner, such that newbies to the environmental profession feel welcome to ask questions, participate, and learn.

Career guidance and mentorship: Attending AWMA meetings and getting involved with our Section provides opportunities to discuss career paths and learn from the collective knowledge and experience of our diverse members.

Opportunities for leadership: Students and young environmental professionals have a variety of opportunities for participation, including lining up speakers for monthly breakfast-time meetings (or possibly even presenting), participating in the AWMA Board, event planning, and more.
