URBAVORE Urban Farm Tour and Compost Activity:

*NOTE: This event has been rescheduled to Monday, 11/6, at 4 PM due to the weather conditions.

URBAVORE Urban Farm is the largest, longest standing urban farm in Kansas City. The farm produces vegetables, fruits, pastured eggs & pork using regenerative farming practices that go far beyond organic standards. Holistic systems for waste, water, energy, and shelter provide a breeding ground for community and ecology right here in KC’s urban core.

Tour the farm and see the autumns crop fields, the free-ranging chickens, and the robust (always rambunctious) heritage hogs. Learn about URBAVORE’s alternative infrastructure and commitment to ecological solutions to mitigate climate change in an urban setting. See their composting site where 20,00 pounds of food waste are diverted from the landfill each week and turned into nutrient-rich soil to be spread on the farm’s fields.

Optional activity: After a tour and Q & A, participants will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty sifting finished compost and bagging it. Participants are welcome to take compost home for their own gardens and potted plants!
