Environmental Sustainability of Kansas City Southern:

Reducing our carbon footprint is not a buzz phrase at Kansas City Southern. It is our commitment that we will be responsible stewards of our environment by demonstrating resource efficiency and conservation of natural resources. Our focus is to reduce the amount of diesel gallons and CO2e emissions thru the use of technologies and improved processes. We have avoided emissions on 10.2M gallons of diesel fuel in 2019 thru October.  In 2019 KCS has proven to be responsible stewards of our environment by reducing our fuel consumption by 11%.

Tony Roberts, Director of Fuel Conservation, KC Southern Railroad

Tony Roberts is the Director of Fuel Conservation at KC Southern Railroad (KCS), where Tony leads the design, testing, implementation and monitoring of processes, programs and technologies that improve fuel efficiency.

Tony has a Master’s Degree in Transportation Safety, has worked in the industry for 20 years, and spent the last 6 years standing up the Fuel Conservation Department at KCS.  He has implemented several fuel saving technologies that have saved over 10M gallons of diesel fuel per year.

Away from work, Tony enjoys spending time with his family in Overland Park and volunteering at Blue Valley Baptist Church.
