Blue River Biosolids Improvements Project

This presentation will review the City of Kansas City, MO Blue River Wastewater Treatment Plant Biosolids Improvements Project.  This project kicked off in January 2021 and is a Design-Build project to convert from incineration of biosolids to producing a beneficial use product.  The new technology will be Thermal Hydrolysis Process (TPH) and when completed in 2024 the facility will be the largest in the Midwest and one of only nine THP facilities in the United States. The two byproducts the plant will produce include biosolids that can be utilized for land application as a soil conditioner or fertilizer and biogas which can be used as an energy source.  In addition to the environmental benefits, the use of this process decreased the amount of sludge storage needed which saves the City costs over time.
